Household Hazardous Waste Press Release March 2023
Household Hazardous Waste
March 10, 2023 Media Release
Emmet County DPW has always been able to offer Household Hazardous Waste collection to residents at no charge. This has been an important staple of our program; incentivizing proper disposal to protect the health of our residents and our environment.
Unfortunately, the costs to collect and properly dispose of these materials has risen significantly in the last year. To continue this service at no charge, we have applied for a grant to offset costs and should hear back in early May. If we receive the grant, we will be able to continue to provide this service at no charge to residents. If we are not awarded the grant, we may need to charge a small fee for residents who bring hazardous waste into our drop off days.
In addition, we will only host two drop-off days, one of which will be a weekday. The dates are Tuesday, June 20th and Saturday, September 30th.
In early May, we will announce the times for these events and post a link to sign up for appointments. The sign up link will be shared on our social media and the homepage of our website. We will also put a notice in the newspaper. In the meantime, put the dates on your calendar as a placeholder and start collecting your cleaners, pesticides, paints and other chemicals that you no longer need around your house.
